On the hill of the Agora, the Agora Colonus, dominated the temple of Hephaestus and Athena Ergane, who were worshipped together. This is our well-known Theseion, the best-preserved temple of the 5th century BC. At the foot of the hill were discovered the public buildings that housed the institutions of the Athenian Republic: the Bouleuterion, where bills were prepared, the Tholos, seat of the executive power, and the State Archives.
